Slaaaaaay, Gina Rodriguez!
The Jane the Virgin star graced the cover of Cosmo for Latinas‘ winter issue, and we have to say she looks fierce AF! The Chicago native stunned in a series of shots like this one (above), where she dons an all-black ensemble, a beautiful beaded headpiece, and bares quite a bit of her bust.
While we think she looks gorgeous, the brunette beauty opened up on Instagram about how this SKINtillating snap was a tough one to take.
The actress shared the photo on her profile, captioning it:
“Another shot from inside my @cosmoforlatinas cover shoot. This one was difficult for me, as many women can understand because I am showing more skin then I am used to. As a woman with hashimotos, my struggle with health and weight and body acceptance in this industry has been a loving, painful, growing, exposing, vulnerable and incredible journey. And to come to a place where I love the skin I am in and it isn’t defined by anyone’s expectations or limitations is beyond freeing. I love this picture because I feel like young Gina finally made herself her own hero.#loveYourSkin #enoughToday#AllGrownUp”
The CW celeb revealed in the article that she tries not to get too bothered when people nitpick on physical things, like her “weird” toes but sometimes she can’t help it, saying:
“I have been very blessed because ├óΓé¼┬¿I didn’t get a lot of negativity my first year in the public. I got some ridiculousness, but People en Espa├â┬▒ol was a different kind of negativity. I’ve always watched other celebrities get some real nasty comments and been like, ‘Wow, man, that’s tough.’ That’s a tough feeling because no matter how much money you make, no matter how famous you are, you feel, you hurt, you are insecure, you want to be accepted, you want love, you want success. We all want the same damn things.”
We happen to think the 31-year-old’s body be bangin’, probably from all the boxing she’s done over the years. She opened up about how she could probably beat up all the boys from the set of the popular program, adding:
“All these dudes are much bigger than me and much stronger. And I could probably whoop every single one of their asses.”
But the sweet celeb admitted that even her strong attitude has its limits, especially when people within her own community turn against one another, explaining:
“The pain wasn’t about the negative. I can deal with that. I have a pretty freaking strong core. My toes looked weird. I get a little cross-eyed when I take off my glasses. It happens. I’m real. But enough of this I’m-not-Latino-enough bullsh*t. Because the truth is that all Latinos don’t feel the same about each other. They don’t get along the way the world thinks they do, and they don’t think they are all the same, just like the world thinks they are. This culture, this country we live in is like, ‘Oh, you’re Latino. All of you guys go over there.’ Then we go over there and we go, ‘Well, you’re Mexican. You go over there. You’re Ecuadorian, you go over there, and you’re Puerto Rican. You put your ass over there.'”
The endearing Golden Globe-winner confessed that she’s hoping to use her career to change all that, continuing:
“That was eye-opening. That is why I’m working on a documentary about it now and having conversations with Latinos about it a lot more. Because the only way for us to win the game is to figure out how the f*ck we’re playing it. Unity is needed right now.”
We LOVE that Gina is working towards uniting that Latino community! You go, girl! And be sure to check out more stunning shots from her shoot in the gallery (above)!
