This is so terrible.

Stedman Bailey, a wide receiver for the St. Louis Rams, is in the hospital after being shot in the head twice late Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old was in a car in Miami Gardens with his cousin Antwan Reeves — as well as two unnamed minors — when someone pulled up and started shooting. Luckily the children weren’t hit after apparently being shielded by Antwan.

As a result Bailey’s cousin was shot multiple times and had to be taken into surgery last night.

Miraculously, Stedman wasn’t injured as much as his cousin and is in stable condition today.

An official for the Rams who spoke with Stedman said:

“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening. We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.”

Though the young NFL player is in stable condition, he is scheduled to undergo surgery today at Aventura Hospital Trauma Center in Aventura, Florida.

Unfortunately the Miami-Dade police are not able to identify the shooter at this time.

Stedman was most likely in the area because he was raised in Miramar, FL, close to where the shooting took place.

The wide receiver is currently serving a four-game suspension from the NFL for violating the substance abuse policy.

Since the event, players from around the league have taken to Twitter to send their thoughts and prayers to the athlete, tweeting:

We wish the best for Bailey as well as his cousin and hope those who are responsible for this terrible act are caught and brought to justice.
