What a makeover!
The Pirelli Calendar has historically been about artsy photographs of classically beautiful models in states of undress, and sometimes just fully nude, but not this time!
For 2016 the iconic calendar has decided on a wholly new approach that may be shocking for people used to the sexy, beach-y vibe of previous years.
This time the focus is on women’s achievements, and instead of professional supermodels, the photos are of writers, directors, singers, and philanthropists like Yoko Ono, Ava Duvernay, Tavi Gevinson, Patti Smith, and others.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz said:
“For 2016, we did something completely different, but it is still simple. It is a classic set of black-and-white portraits made in the studio. When Pirelli approached me, they said they wanted to make a departure from the past. They suggested the idea of photographing distinguished women. After we agreed on that, the goal was to be very straightforward. I wanted the pictures to show the women exactly as they are, with no pretense.”
Are you loving this new approach, Perezcious readers???
