There must be something in the water.
Now The Weeknd is being sued for copyright infringement over The Hills… and, once again, we can actually hear some similarities to the earlier song.
Cutting Edge Music Services filed a lawsuit on Wednesday saying that music producer Million Dollar Mano sampled a bit of score from the soundtrack of the 2014 sci-fi film The Machine and even sent the movie’s composer Tom Raybould a message saying the track could be featured on Beauty Behind the Madness.
The only problem is that Tom never received any money from The Hills‘ success — even though it debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100!
Did Teh Weeknd steal a bit of Raybould’s music?
Ch-ch-check out Revolution from The Machine and The Hills from Beauty Behind the Madness and decide if they have a case (below)!!!
The lawsuit specifically referenced the songs’ “synthesizer bass-lines performed with almost identical idiosyncratic sounds at the same register and using the same pitch sequence, melodic phase structure, and rhythmic durations” as examples of infringement.
Sounds pretty open-and-shut to us…
P.S. Caity Lotz from Arrow gives an amazing performance as a cyborg in the little-known film, which is currently available to watch on Netflix.
