When most sports figures retire from public life, they ask only to be remembered. Abby Wambach wants the opposite.
The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team star announced her retirement with a dramatic final tweet — before deleting her Twitter entirely!
The request is explained in more depth in a final commercial for Gatorade.
The two-time gold medal winning Olympian says:
“Forget the medals won, the records broken, and the sacrifices made. I want to leave a legacy where the ball keeps rolling forward, where the next generation accomplishes things so great that I am no longer remembered. Because the day I’m forgotten is the day I’ll succeed. So, forget me.”
It’s an amazingly selfless sentiment that is pure sports. And we LOVE it!
