On the 1st day of Perezmas, pop culture gave to us… one major comeback from Adele!
As 2015 began to wind down, we started wondering who we were going to select as our most influential celebrity of the year.
Caitlyn Jenner came out as trans, Taylor Swift‘s posse took control of the A-List, and Kim Kardashian West and Kylie Jenner ruled social media… but nothing could really compare to the power of 25.
Adele returned to music after a three and a half year hiatus, and the world was forever changed.
So how did the comeback to end all comebacks really go down??
It all started Sunday, October 18 when Adele teased new material during a commercial break for X Factor.
The sneak peek obviously drove fans mad, so Adele blessed us all with the name 25 before sharing the album artwork.
Then on Friday, October 23 Adele made her official return to the industry with a music video for lead single Hello and it instantly became the No. 1 song in 85 countries!
Adele then turned out an iconic cover for Rolling Stone, debuted Hello at the NRJ Music Awards, and showed off the video for her second song When We Were Young.
In honor of 25‘s release on November 20, Adele pulled a Taylor Swift by deciding to not stream the album on Spotify, but did send a message out to fans thanking them for all of the support.
To further promote the tracks, Adele stopped by Saturday Night Live to perform two of her songs before premiering Water Under the Bridge on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Adele’s place in music history was cemented a week after 25‘s release when it was revealed that she had the highest-selling debut ever, pushing 3.4 million copies the first week!
But she wasn’t about to stop there — Adele went on to premiere Million Years Ago on TODAY before announcing her European Tour!
Plus, not only was 25 the No. 1 album in the world… but its success also pulled 19 and 21 back into the Top 20 on Billboard.
Then Adele made a record of her own by being the first artist to ever sell over 1 million copies in their second week!
Adele then took it back to where it all began by performing Hello at the X Factor finale and even announced a U.S. Tour right after.
The most recent chapter of Adele’s epic return took place on December 14 when her Live In New York special aired, giving NBC the best TV concert ratings in a decade!
AND she even covered TIME magazine! What a year!
Cheers to an absolutely AH-Mazing 2015, Adele!
Now how about an official 28 announcement..?
