On Wednesday, the scandalized star was arraigned and booked for the alleged aggravated indecent assault of Andrea Constand in 2004, and a judge set his bail at $1 million.
The 78-year-old was able to leave the police station after posting 10% of the full amount.
And while the actor didn’t enter a plea during his arraignment, his attorneys are already heavily criticizing the charge he’s facing.
According to his legal representation, prosecuting the comedian was apparently the main selling point for the DA-elect in his recent campaign.
Kevin Steele — who takes office as the District Attorney of Montgomery County on Friday — based a lot of his platform around Andrea’s case against the Cosby Show alum.
It turns out that his competitor, Bruce Castor, held the DA position in 2005 and rejected the accuser’s initial case because her credibility was supposedly questionable.
So, Kevin spent the recent race bashing Bruce’s decision, causing Bill’s lawyers to argue that their client is only being charged for political appearances.
The celeb’s team is supposedly working on a “vigorous defense against this unjustified charge.”
