Cruises are supposed to be a relaxing getaway — but for one family, their vacation turned into a scene from a horror movie.

Matt Davis was a passenger on the Carnival ecstasy cruise ship when he and his family encountered blood pouring down the front of one of the ship’s elevators!

Davis and his wife were heading to dinner when they saw the gruesome scene, in which blood poured out as the elevator doors tried to open and close.

The husband described the incident “a real life scene of The Shining,” explaining that he and his wife could smell the blood that sounded like a rainstorm.

A spokesperson for Carnival revealed to reporters the disturbing true cause behind the blood.

Apparently an electrician named Jose Sandoval Opazo was working on the elevator on Sunday when an accident occurred. The 66-year-old was injured and eventually died in the shaft.

Cruise officials have launched an investigation and released the following statement:

“The company extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family and loved ones of our team member. ├óΓé¼┬ª Appropriate authorities have been notified and a full investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.”

The company has also offered to pay for the Davis family to go to three counseling sessions.
