What a time to be part of Star Wards: The Force Awakens!
The record-setting movie just logged ANOTHER record at the box office over New Year’s Day, becoming the highest-grossing New Year’s movie of all time with a single day record of $34.5 million brought in from 4,134 theaters across the country!
That makes it the highest grossing single-day total of all time on the first day of the calendar year, and it’s only getting better for the massive flick.
The movie is now approaching $700 million, and has overtaken major blockbusters like jurassic World and Titanic — with the expectation that after Saturday night the flick will be up to roughly $740 million, making it the second-highest grossing domestic film of all time!
Worldwide, the film has made $1.39 billion thus far, and just passed the final installment of Harry Potter to become the seventh highest-grossing international title of all time.
The crowded holiday box office saw pretty strong showings this weekend from Daddy’s Home ($30.2 million, $95.2 million total), The Hateful Eight ($6.4 million in limited release, $17.2 million), and Sisters ($4.8 million on New Year’s Day, $12.5 million over the weekend).
None of it compares to Star Wars, though!!!
