This is so great — and well-deserved!
The comedienne and TV talk show host will officially be given the award, presented by Walgreens, on Wednesday, January 6 during the televised ceremony.
But just like the funny woman Ellen is, she couldn’t resist a little humor when she heard the news; she wrote (below):
“I am so honored to be receiving the People’s Choice Humanitarian Award. I think it sums me up perfectly as I am both a human and an itarian.”
DeGeneres was chosen this year for her non-stop work helping people and communities in need around the country, and — in another benefit of winning the award — she’s selected St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as the beneficiary for a donation that will be made by Walgreens in her honor.
Even better than that, you can help St. Jude’s, too!
Part of the Humanitarian Award includes a community component, and for every CoverGirl, Pantene, Crest and Oral-B 3D White product sold at Walgreens, Walgreens.com, or Duane Reade between January 6 and January 9, the pharmacy will make a $1 donation to St. Jude’s.
DeGeneres is in good company now having won the fourth annual Humanitarian award handed out by the organization: past winners include Sandra Bullock (2013), Jennifer Hudson (2014), and Ben Affleck (2015).
Watch Ellen accept her award when the People’s Choice Awards airs live on Wednesday, January 6 at 9 p.m. EST, only on CBS!
