Mos Def Claims There Are ‘Political Motivations’ Behind His Immigration Charges In South Africa — Announces His Retirement On Kanye West’s Website

No more parties in S.A. for Yasiin Bey!

As we reported, the rapper better known as Mos Def was arrested last week in South Africa for violating local immigration laws.

The 42-year-old has now been charged with using a false passport and helping his family illegally stay in the country on an expired visa since 2014.

South African officials confirmed the rapper was released on 5000 Rand (about $296 U.S. dollars) but has been ordered to stay in Cape Town and report to police every two days until his next court date on March 8.

His wife and children have been given just until January 29 to leave the country.

In response, the Brooklyn native took over good pal Kanye West‘s website to drop a freestyle and explain his side of the story in an audio recording called A message from Yasiin Bey.

Bey dubs his freestyle No More Parties in S.A. (after Yeezy’s No More Parties In L.A), and raps:

“I’ve committed no crime, why is the state wasting my time, they must be out of their minds.”

During his announcement, Bey asserts that there are “political motivations” for why he’s being treated this way by the government.

In fact, he says there’s absolutely nothing fake about his documentation:

“They are making false claims against me, a world passport is not a fictitious document. It’s been accepted here in South Africa on numerous occasions…as early as 1996 and as late as 2013.”

But it doesn’t stop there — the artist also announced that he will be releasing his last album this year and retiring from the entertainment biz altogether:

“I’m retiring from the musical recording industry … and also from Hollywood effective immediately. I am releasing my final album this year and that’s that.”

Mos Def claims he just wants to return “home” to America, and that he and his family are prepared to “never return again” to South Africa.

Sounds like he might not have much a choice in that matter!

You can listen to the entire recording (below)!
