This is seriously not okay!
The X-Files isn’t the first classic series to get a second life on TV, so you’d think the producers and network would know better than to try and pull some gender wage gap shenanigans on their stars.
Well… you’d be wrong.
As it turns out, Gillian Anderson was offered only half of what David Duchovny was initially going to make for being part of FOX‘s six-part reboot!
Gillian spoke to The Hollywood Reporter earlier this month about being a victim of the gender wage-gap, saying:
“At first, I thought it was a joke. It wasn’t until we were at a small number of episodes that I could even have the conversation. Once we agreed, negotiations happened somewhere else. There’s no point in dealing with my side because, as usual, they come to me with half of what they want to offer David.”
But Gil wasn’t about to let FOX off the hook.
“Especially in this climate of women talking about the reality of [unequal pay] in this business, I think it’s important that it gets heard and voiced. It was shocking to me, given all the work that I had done in the past to get us to be paid fairly. I worked really hard toward that and finally got somewhere with it.”
In the end, Gillian did get paid the same as David, but the fact that she had to even bring it up is ridiculous.
Not only is she just as famous as her co-star… they’re doing the exact same job!
If the threat of sexism hasn’t turned you off to the reboot, you can catch The X-Files when it returns Sunday, January 24 at 10 p.m. EST on FOX!
