Our hearts are broken.
As we previously reported, Beats 1 took to Twitter earlier this week to tease a pretty intense interview with Zayn Malik where the former One Direction member shared that “he never really wanted to be” in the band. Whoa!
Luckily, parts of the highly anticipated chat with the boy band alum has since dropped and boy, did it not disappoint. In his one-on-one with DJ Zane Lowe, Perrie Edwards‘ ex noted:
“I think I always wanted to go, from the first year, really. I never really wanted to be there in the band, I just gave it a go because it was there at the time.”
Now that’s a truth bomb! He continued:
“When I realized the direction we were going in, mind the pun, with the music, I instantly realized it wasn’t for me because I couldn’t put any input in. I had to start thinking about myself. I was always writing anyway even when I was in the band… I always knew.”
In fact, Malik further revealed that all of his former bandmates attempted to get him to stay despite knowing he was unhappy. The British cutie added:
“I think the boys kind of knew ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ in terms of the music ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ that wasn’t my cup of tea. They obviously didn’t want me to leave, but they couldn’t talk me out of it at that point. I’d already made my mind up.”
But hey, that doesn’t really matter now that the X Factor alum has his own single Pillowtalk headed our way on January 29. AH-Mazing!
Be sure to ch-ch-check out Zayn’s words for yourself (below)!
