This is ridiculous!
The Michigan state Senate just passed a bill reaffirming the state’s already absurd law that sodomy is a felony — and it’s now mandated with punishment by up to 15 years in prison!!!
More than a dozen states still have sodomy laws on the books, even though the U.S. Supreme Court has already declared them unconstitutional, and now Michigan’s Senate has doubled down on their own, making oral and anal sex crimes punishable by jail time!
The most ridiculous part of it all is how this was passed.
The state Senate had been trying to pass a law against animal abusers being able to adopt pets, when a senator — Republican Rick Jones — added language in Senate Bill 219 against sodomy. Because… why?!
The added text was crazy, too (below):
Now, those key words — “either with mankind or” — are making sodomy illegal
Jones spoke about how striking those words from the bill would jeopardize the entire thing, for some reason:
“The minute I cross that line and I start talking about the other stuff, I won’t even get another hearing. It’ll be done. Nobody wants to touch it. I would rather not even bring up the topic, because I know what would happen. You’d get both sides screaming and you end up with a big fight that’s not needed because it’s unconstitutional. But if you focus on it, people just go ballistic. If we could put a bill in that said anything that’s unconstitutional be removed from the legal books of Michigan, that’s probably something I could vote for, but am I going to mess up this dog bill that everybody wants? No.”
Here’s a thought: don’t be idiots and stop making sodomy illegal?
Seems pretty simple to us!
