This is awful — and far too soon.
Daniel Gerson, who co-wrote Monsters Inc and Big Hero 6, died on Saturday from a brain tumor, according to his family.
The screenwriter had been battling brain cancer before his untimely death — he was just 49 years old.
His career in Hollywood brought us several feel-good movies, including the two aforementioned blockbusters, plus a successful prequel in Monsters University.
Gerson was also credited with additional writing for films like Disney/Pixar‘s Inside Out, Up, and Chicken Little. He even voiced the incredulous police sergeant in Big Hero 6.
After getting his start in the mid-1990s as a staff writer on NBC‘s sitcom Something So Right, Gerson eventually transitioned into his very successful career in animated films for Pixar.
He is survived by his wife, two children, and both parents.
His family has asked that any donations in Gerson’s memory be sent to UCLA‘s Brain Tumor Research Program, which can be done HERE.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and loved ones during what is undoubtedly a very difficult time.
