This is awful.
A 19-year-old college baseball player who was reported missing over the weekend in upstate New York has been found dead.
Alex Hendry, a freshman pitcher on the Onondaga Community College baseball team, was found on Monday near the college’s baseball fields after failing to return home from a party on Saturday night amid subzero cold temperatures in New York.
The sheriff’s office says Hendry was last seen leaving a party on foot that Saturday evening, and foul play is not suspected in his death.
The team’s baseball coach, John Sheedy, was very emotional during a interview, relaying he told the rest of the team about Hendry’s death:
“We must put our best face forward right now in this very difficult time … Every one of those 40 athletes that I have on my baseball team is an extension of my family. Those are all my sons, and it… it hits home.”
Our thoughts are with Hendry’s family, friends, and teammates through this incredibly difficult time.
