There were many touching tributes at this year’s Grammy Awards!
However, many fans are now wondering why the late Natalie Cole wasn’t honored in the same way that David Bowie, Glenn Frey, and Maurice White were at the Hollywood event. But, actually though!!
In case you forgot, the music legend passed away at 65 years old back in December after battling a rare lung disease.
Of course, the This Will Be singer’s impact on the industry was noted during Monday’s “In Memoriam” segment. Still, as a winner of nine Grammys, you’d think Miz Cole would’ve been honored with a touching tribute of her own.
In a recent interview, Natalie’s sisters Timolin and Casey added:
“Sadly a FORGETTABLE tribute to Natalie Cole. Words cannot express the outrage and utter disappointment at the disrespectful tribute, or lack thereof, to a legendary artist such as our sister.”
Previously, the show’s producer defended the “unbelievably touching” video tribute, saying it was better than any live performance. He was obviously wrong.
The snub has been compared to the #OscarsSoWhite problem, but Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich previously said about this show:
“The fact of the matter is popular music is, it came from New Orleans, it came from Memphis, it came from Kansas City, it came from the Islands, it came from Africa, and the music we listen to today, not just hip-hop, not just R&B, but all music has been influenced and been shaped by African-American culture, so I don’t think the same rules apply. There wouldn’t be a Grammys show today if it weren’t for the great African-American artists who built the culture and wrote the music and we try to reflect that every year. I don’t think it’s fair to level criticism, the same kind of criticism against us that the Oscars are experiencing.”
Hmmmm, ok but that still not a good enough reason to snub an industry icon.
Ch-ch-check out the reactions from Twitter about Natalie’s MIA tribute at the Grammys (below)!

It’s weird the Grammys didn’t do a Natalie Cole tribute. She has more Grammys and more billboard hits than Bowie but ok.

I just heard on the news, Natalie Cole’s family is highly upset, the Grammy’s didn’t pay a tribute to her. I feel the same

Lalah or Jazmine could’ve done a 1 minute vocal for Natalie.
