Kristin Cavallari Dishes On Why She Called Off Her Wedding From Jay Cutler The First Time Around

Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler

It’s no secret that much of reality TV is produced.

According to Kristin Cavallari, her experience on Laguna Beach was nothing like reality at all — but she wouldn’t be where she is today without it.

Even though she didn’t have the best time (or edit) on the MTV series set in Orange County, Kristin’s decision to participate in follow-up series The Hills is what ultimately led her to meeting her now-husband Jay Cutler.

In her new book Balancing in Heels, the 29-year-old recalls:

“When I was in the middle of filming The Hills, I got a phone call from my publicist saying that Jay cutler wanted to fly me to Chicago and take me on a date … A year later, a year in which I grew up a lot and felt serious about meeting a good man…I called up my publicist and got us family passes to meet Jay after the game.”

She calls the rest a “swift and intense romance.”

But maybe a little too swift — eight months later the two were engaged, only to find Kristin notoriously calling off their big day in 2011 and returning all of their wedding gifts to friends and family.

The blonde beauty pens:

“I always go after what I want in life, with men or otherwise, and I never settle. If something doesn’t feel right, I act on it. It’s just who I’ve always been. And at that moment, something wasn’t right. A few things needed to change, and I knew the only way Jay would see how serious I was, was if I ended the relationship.”

During their breakup, Miz Cavallari says she kept in touch with her NFL love but she was “dying inside.”

One of the main issues was that KC didn’t want to be a stay-at-home wife:

“If I stayed at home, I wouldn’t be happy. And would probably end up resenting Jay for it.”

Makes sense!

As a result the pair entered couples therapy:

“I credit [our therapist] for saving our relationship. She opened up our eyes to the other person’s perspective and gave us great tools for communication. . . . We still periodically see her to this day.”

And the rest is history!

The lovebirds got hitched in 2013 and now share three adorable kiddos — Camden, 3, Jaxon, 22 months, and daughter Saylor, 3 months.

So happy it worked out for these two! Patience is a virtue, Perezcious readers!!!

We never thought Stephen Colletti was the right fit for her anyway
