Who run the Internet?

On Wednesday, TIME revealed its second annual list of the Most Influential People on the Internet — and while some of the biggest influencers on the web were pretty obvious, we were a bit surprised with who made the cut!

Being a wonderful and confusing place, the inter webs are dominated by media power figures, innovative YouTubers with a knack for capitalizing on the latest trends, and obscure viral sensations who make achieving overnight internet stardom seem like a breeze!

The contenders were selected by their global impact on social media and their overall ability to drive news — so, stars like Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Drake, and Caitlyn Jenner made the list for obvious reasons.

James Corden also made the list for bringing late night to YouTube with segments like his super popular Carpool Karaoke, while DJ Khaled made the cut for literally being a walking meme.

And even viral sensation Daniel Lara — the well-dressed teen who was featured in a series of Snapchat videos known as “Damn Daniel” — made the list. But we’re not sure if he would still land a spot had this list come out a few months from now!

Another controversial entry is Josh Ostrovsky a.k.a. The Fat Jew, who rose to fame by sharing funny pictures and memes over the years — but was later called out by several comedians for building a career off of stolen material.

Clearly, there are no rules when it comes to achieving Internet fame. So take those selfies, steal those jokes, and keep wearing your white Vans — maybe next year, you’ll make the Most Influential People on the Internet list!
