This is great news!

Georgia governor Nathan Deal has announced he WILL veto that “religious liberty” bill that was so controversial the last several weeks in the state and throughout the country.

Speaking on Monday, Governor Deal stated unequivocally House Bill 757 “doesn’t reflect the character of our state.”

He added some very strong words against the measure, which would have granted faith-based organizations the right to deny service to those who violated their “sincerely held religious belief,” as well as allowing those organizations to fire employees.

Deal went on to say:

“Their efforts to purge this bill of any possibility that it would allow or encourage discrimination illustrates how difficult it is to legislate something that is best left to the broad protections of the First Amendment.”

Wow… A Republican governor does something sensible!!

Of course, it wasn’t just Deal who was against this bill… a coordinated condemnation of it from businesses like Disney and AMC surely helped push Deal’s hand in the matter.

It’s always great to see businesses fight for their employees like this — and in Georgia’s case, it appears the fight worked! For now…

Georgia Republicans, angry with Deal, have already vowed to revive the measure during the next legislative session, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

No matter — human rights and love won out this week, and they will win out against next year!

Equal rights for all!!
