Disturbing on so many levels…
A woman charged with murdering her 2-year-old daughter hired a photographer to take photos of herself at her daughter’s grave — with a superimposed angel-like image of her daughter in the background.
Last week, Jeanie Ditty and her boyfriend Zachary Keefer were arrested for the murder of Macy Grace under charges of first-degree murder and negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
According to police, the child was taken to a local North Carolina hospital on December 2, 2015 where medical examiners discovered her body was covered in bruises. Macy was transferred to another hospital, where she died two days later.
Fayettenville Police Department office Antoine Kincade said the girl’s life-threatening injuries were “consistent with child abuse,” noting:
“An investigation was initiated and it was determined after the autopsy the child died of injuries sustained as a result of the mother Jeanie Ditty and her boyfriend.”
One month after the child’s death, Ditty contacted Pennsylvania photographer Sunny Jo and asked him to create photos showing the soldier from Fort Bragg next to an angelic version of her daughter, both looking down at Macy Grace’s gravesite.
The photographer wasn’t privy to the entire story at the time the photos were taken. Sunny simply thought the 23-year-old was a grieving mother.
“This poor girl just lost her daughter. This must be the most heartbreaking thing in the world. So when she asked me to do the photos I said absolutely. I just knew that one way or another I wanted to get the pictures done for what I thought at the time was a grieving mother.”
Ever since learning that Ditty was charged with the murder of her own daughter, Sunny “couldn’t sleep,” but admits looking at it from a different perspective helps him grip with taking the photos:
“The only thing that helps me out is me thinking I didn’t do it for Jeanie I did it for the spirit of Macy. The only thing I was trying to do was help a grieving mother. I just wanted to make someone happy who was going through a tough time.”
Everything about this is awful.
We’re sure taking the photos was just a way for the mother to cope with her grief — but let’s be clear that the only victim here is her fatally abused toddler.
