The Little Mermaid may be getting a live-action big screen adaptation — but it looks like Ariel & co. are set to make a splash on the stage first!
Backed by a 71-piece live orchestra, the Brave singer will be playing the titular mermaid while the Pitch Perfect star has signed on to play the evil sea witch Ursula — though the A-list cast doesn’t stop there!
The idea for the musical recreation surfaced from Alan Menken, who co-wrote the music for the original film, including the songs Under the Sea, Kiss The Girl, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Part of Your World.
But the Hollywood Bowl performance will also include additional songs Menken co-wrote for the Broadway adaptation — including Her Voice, sung by Prince Eric!
And according to the 66-year-old, the success of the Hollywood Bowl show could mean plans to take The Little Mermaid on the road! While he said there are “no concrete plans yet” for a tour, he noted:
“For a lot of us, it’s wait and see how the Hollywood Bowl goes.”
The biggest Disney fans will want to catch the debut show on June 4, because Menken will kick off the night with a medley of his best-known songs from Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Newsies, Enchanted, and Tangled!
