Drew Barrymore has a lot of feelings right now!
Just a week or two after making the decision to split from husband Will Kopelman, the actress shed some tears at a fundraiser for the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. The important cause is very near and dear to Drew’s heart.
At the annual spring luncheon, Barrymore took the stage to read an excerpt from her book Wildflower titled Africa. The selected portion recalled D.B.’s time working in the AIDS-torn country and her time spent with infected children.
Before reading the emotional passage, the beauty confided to the audience:
“If I break down during this story, you will understand, I will just turn it into laughter and you men will think we’re crazy. We are, but it’s that craziness that actually evolves into compassion, and that’s what’s so beautiful about women.”
Aw! We just love how Drew is always so open with her deep emotions!
Naturally, the momma of two stayed true to her words as she tearfully described interacting with a sick little girl she had financially supported prior to the transformative trip.
Considering Barrymore was so emotional while reading, we’re not surprised she SKIPPED over the paragraphs which mentioned Will.
Despite the intensity of the day, it appears the beauty still managed to have a great experience:
Thank you NEW YORK SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN #nyspcc and #CAPmonth for having me as one of your hosts today. I am honored to work with such an esteemed and effective organization. It’s nice to know Drew can rely on her charity work as she transitions into singlehood — at least she and Kopelman have pledged to remain friends during this time. We can’t imagine the close knit couple having it any other way.
Stay strong, girl!
