A Texas woman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly stealing a ring off a corpse.

According to reports, Kalynn Homfeld was caught on camera taking a ring off a dead woman’s finger at an open-casket memorial service on Friday.

The family of Lois Hicks was hosting a memorial service for the late 88-year-old at Sunset Memorial Gardens, when Homfeld came into the funeral home and allegedly swiped the ring from Hicks’ cold, dead hands.

Corporal Steve LeSueur of the Odessa Police Department said officials were able to track her down thanks to a tip.

Homfeld was taken in for questioning on Tuesday, where she apologized for stealing the ring. Her motives remain unclear, seeing as the ring was reportedly only worth $10!

But the pricetag doesn’t make a difference in the eyes of the Texas law. LeSueur explained:

“Regardless [of its price] it’s still the principal ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ if you steal a $10 or $10,000 ring you’re still committing a felony in the state of Texas.”

Homfeld has been charged with theft from a human corpse, a state felony.

Authorities say that Hicks’ loved ones are relieved the suspect was arrested, but are still grieving their loss.

Now the only question is — why would anyone steal a $10 ring from a dead woman’s finger?
