This may be literally the dumbest thing we’ve ever heard…
AMC Theatres is the largest movie theater chain in the entire country, but just because you’re the biggest doesn’t mean you’re the best.
Case in point: it was revealed on Wednesday that the company’s CEO of only four months, Adam Aron, is toying with the idea of allowing text messaging in theaters!!!
Yeah… no thank you, Adam.
While the businessman is responsible for upgrading the food and seats at AMC’s locations throughout the country, we can’t see how having select theaters where texting is allowed would be beneficial to anyone.
The former Philadelphia 76ers co-owner sat down with Variety to discuss his idiotic plan, saying:
“There does seem to be a consensus that there are pockets of consumers who do not see as many movies as other segments of the population and that we can be doing more to attract those people. Millennials come to mind. We need to reshape our product in some concrete ways so that millennials go to movie theaters with the same degree of intensity as baby boomers went to movie theaters throughout their lives.“
Wait for it…
“When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.
At the same time, though, we’re going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audiences. There’s a reason there are ads up there saying turn off your phone, because today’s moviegoer doesn’t want somebody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on.”
There’s the kicker!
While Adam did acknowledge it would be difficult to make it so the young’uns don’t annoy others, we think even entertaining the idea is a mistake.
If anything, they should be even tougher on texters!
If you want to make sure people will come out to the movies, guarantee an experience free of hassle — including obnoxious texting!
But how do YOU feel about the idea??
