People are still trying to process the unexpected death of Prince, and are now beginning to question what mysterious illness the music icon could have been suffering from.

Though the Purple Rain singer’s reps say that he was battling the flu, his frequent trips to the pharmacy and frail appearance are causing skeptics to come up with other theories.

Among those skeptics is Aretha Franklin, who speculated live on MSNBC that the late legend could have died from the Zika virus.

While speaking to Brian Williams about Prince’s sudden passing on Thursday, the Think singer said:

“They’re saying flu-like symptoms. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with this Zika virus.”

For those who don’t know, the Zika virus caused some panic earlier this year after an outbreak in Brazil triggered a global health emergency.

Experts later found the mosquito-spread virus was not as deadly as they thought, citing the most common symptoms are “fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes.)”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention even said people “very rarely die of Zika,” and only one in five people infected with the virus experience any sort of symptoms at all.

So, the Zika virus probably wasn’t what Prince was suffering from — but we’re not sure if it was just the flu either…
