While tons of famous friends and admirers took to Twitter to share their feels, and late night hosts James Corden and Stephen Colbert took some time to pay tribute to the legendary pop star, Jennifer Hudson decided to go a more musical route!
Hudson, who currently stars in the Broadway play The Color Purple, took a moment at the end of her show to address the crowd saying:
“I’m not a speaker by any means. I did not expect to have to speak on tonight, but God has his way. As we all know, today we lost a legend. Ooh, Jesus, we lost a legend who was a good friend of mine: Prince, who was dear to all of us. Every single one of us.”
The 34-year-old actress went on to talk about her personal relationship with the deceased musician before getting the cast to sing Purple Rain with her!
Ch-ch-check out the Oscar-winning actress and the rest of The Color Purple‘s cast honor Prince Broadway style (below)!
