This is so sad.

Former New England Patriots defensive lineman Ron Brace died over the weekend at his home in Springfield, Massachusetts due to unknown causes. He was just 29 years old.

The big defensive lineman played for the Patriots from 2009 to 2012 before joining the Washington Redskins. Now, his former team has given an official statement about his passing.

In a release, the Patriots wrote:

“We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Ron Brace’s death. Seven years ago tomorrow, we drafted Ron after his standout career at Boston College. During his Patriots career, the Springfield native was always eager to volunteer and give back in our communities, especially when those community initiatives were held in Western Mass. It is difficult to believe that someone so young and in the prime of his life is no longer with us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ron’s family, friends and the many former teammates who will mourn Ron’s passing.”

The Patriots aren’t the only people torn up by Brace’s sudden death, either — Matt Ryan, the star quarterback of the NFL‘s Atlanta Falcons, played football at Boston College with Brace before each man made it to the NFL.

As to be expected, Ryan was pretty torn up over Brace’s passing:

Ugh. Too young to die.

Rest in peace, Mr. Brace.
