Ted Cruz is pulling out all the stops to stay in the presidential race. And to take on Donald Trump, the GOP candidate is joining forces with a former opponent!
In a surprising move, Cruz named Carly Fiorina as his vice presidential running mate on Wednesday!
During an Indiana rally, the presidential hopeful told a crowd of supporters:
“After a great deal of consideration and prayer, I have come to the conclusion that if I am nominated to be president of the United States that I will run on a ticket with my vice presidential nominee Carly Fiorina.”
Usually, candidates don’t pick their VP’s until after they are the presumptive nominee, but Cruz’s selection is a last-minute attempt to gain back momentum and prevent Trump from getting ANY more votes in the primary election!
Cruz has made no secret about putting all his focus into the Indiana primary — which votes next Tuesday — to block Trump from securing the 1,237 delegates he needs to win the nomination.
And calling on one of Trump’s most vocal opponents could be the way to do it! When Fiorina got on stage, she told the crowd:
“Ted could not be more right in what he said: There is a lot at stake, and in fact, this is a fight, this is a fight for the soul of our party and the future of our nation. I’ve had tough fights all my life. Tough fights don’t worry me a bit.”
The Donald responded to Fiorina’s selection on Twitter — but not in his typical name-calling fashion.
Instead, the GOP frontrunner shared a clip of Fiorina criticizing Cruz on CNN earlier this year:
HA! We hate to say it, but that was some near perfect shade…
Do YOU think this last-ditch effort will be enough to stop Donald Trump from winning the primaries?
