This news is still so shocking.

As you may have heard, Catfish subject Ashley Sawyer was found dead in her Alabama apartment on Saturday morning at just 23 years old.

While reports initially stated her death was due to unknown causes, we’re now hearing the MTV star may have died from a drug overdose.

Hoover Police Lt. Charles McDonald talked to reporters about Ashley’s untimely death on Tuesday, saying:

“We are investigating, but early indicators are this was possibly related to a drug overdose, possibly heroin.”

Of course, we won’t know for sure until toxicology reports come in next month, but things aren’t looking good.

What makes this story even sadder, though, is that Ashley actually told hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph that she was staying in a sober-living home during a Catfish reunion special…

Tragically, she must have relapsed.

Our thoughts continue to be with Ashley’s friends and family at this difficult time.
