Olivia Munn Says She Turned Down Deadpool Because She Didn’t Want To Play ‘The Girlfriend’ Anymore

Olivia Munn doesn’t want just any role — she’s going for Angelina Jolie action star status!

In an interview with American Way magazine, the X-Men: Apocalypse star revealed she was offered a role in another X-flick first — Fox‘s megahit Deadpool!

Unfortunately the role of Vanessa Carlyle — which went to Morena Baccarin — just wasn’t what Olivia was looking for. She didn’t want to play “the girlfriend” again.

She was ready to get down and fight!

So much so in fact, the 35-year-old even approached the role of psychic ninja Psylocke with trepidation. She explained:

“I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters, and I said, ├óΓé¼╦£Yes, as long as you’re not using her to be the eye candy. She has really powerful abilities.’ And they said, ├óΓé¼╦£Yes, that’s an important part.'”

Like the aforementioned Angie (who famously asked for fewer lines in the movie Wanted), Olivia found the physicality to be the MOST important part of the role — more so even than her lines! She said:

“The fight scene could be her monologue.”

Sounds like a monologue we want to watch!

And we will soon enough because X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27!
