Donald Trump may be the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, but he’s still got a lot of work to do to impress his fellow Republicans!

On Thursday, Paul Ryan revealed that he’s “just not ready” to back the flippant presidential hopeful.

In an interview with CNN‘s Jake Tapper, the House Speaker said he wants to support the candidate, but some things need to change first!

He said:

“I’m just not ready to do that at this point. I’m not there right now. I hope to, though, and I want to, but I think what is required is that we unify this party.”

Ryan, who is the highest-ranking Republican to publicly state he might not support the 69-year-old, said his refusal to back Trump is largely due to how he pales in comparison to the great Republican leaders of the past.

He added:

“This is the party of Lincoln, of Reagan, of Jack Kemp, and we don’t always nominate a Lincoln and a Reagan every four years, but we hope that our nominee aspires to be Lincoln and Reaganesque, that that person advances the principles of our party and appeals to a wide vast majority of Americans.”

So, it sounds like Ryan is open to backing Trump, as long as he becomes more of a world leader and less of a walking Saturday Night Live sketch!

On Thursday, Trump spoke out on Ryan’s remarks with his typical elementary school I’m-rubber-you-are-glue response, issuing the statement:

“I am not ready to support Speaker Ryan’s agenda. Perhaps in the future we can work together and come to an agreement about what is best for the American people. They have been treated so badly for so long that it is about time for politicians to put them first!”

And, of course, he continued to rant about it on Twitter:

Do YOU think there’s hope for Ryan and other Republicans to support their presumptive nominee, or should we just give Hillary Clinton the keys to the Oval Office already?
