Is Rob Lowe Replacing Michael Strahan As Kelly Ripa’s New Cohost? See What He Said About Joining LIVE!

This would LITERALLY be the most amazing thing to ever happen to daytime television!

It’s been reported ABC has been eyeing Rob Lowe as Kelly Ripa‘s new LIVE! cohost!

According to an ET source, the network has been talking to the Parks and Recreation alum’s reps in hopes of filling Michael Strahan‘s empty seat on the morning program.

The 52-year-old was in talks for the same gig back in 2012 when ABC was searching for Regis Philbin‘s replacement, after the charismatic actor impressed audiences over his two-day stint as guest host.

While Lowe didn’t get the job four years ago, the timing is looking a lot better this time around! Not only did his Fox show The Grinder get cancelled earlier this month, but he admitted to needing a distraction due to empty nest syndrome.

Speaking to ET earlier this week, Lowe didn’t turn down the possibility of joining LIVE, explaining:

“I hosted it with Kelly and had the time of my life. I love her … I love being able to talk to an audience every morning like that and just being fun, counter-punching, being silly, and talking about cool stuff├óΓé¼┬ª My kids are out of the house, they weren’t then. Who knows.”

But before he commits, the actor wants to make sure he’s not stepping on any toes — specifically those of Anderson Cooper, who has also been named a frontrunner to be Kelly’s new cohost! He added:

“But listen, man, I don’t want to go up against Anderson Cooper. I don’t know if I’m going to go back as an actual guest host yet. … You never know! You never know.”

We hope he’s just playing coy, because Lowe would be the PERFECT perky counterpart to sit alongside Kelly every morning!
