Aarti Olivia Dubey is PISSED!
On Tuesday, the plus-size blogger and creator of Curves Become Her took to Buzzfeed News to SLAM Instagram after they removed one of her photos last week. According to Dubey, the removal wasn’t warranted and was motivated by “fatphobic trolls”.
Per the blogger’s account, the incident occurred after she posted a bunch of fun and gorgeous shots from a photoshoot. In the pics, Aarti and her pretty friends don tasteful bikinis.
For a reason unbeknownst to Ms. Dubey, the photo (above)! was removed. Naturally, the creative couldn’t help but assume that her body had offended some fat shamer out there, an occurrence that’s all too common for Aarti.
Elaborating on her suspicions to Buzzfeed, the model explained:
“Fatphobic trolls were displeased and they reported a behind-the-scenes happy image of me and my two girlfriends who I roped in for a photoshoot to accompany the article. The post was removed with no proper explanation a few hours later and I was exasperated. The expectations placed on our bodies and appearance is unrealistic since we don’t all look the same but we’re expected to be a size 4 with fair skin and delicate features.”
Ugh! What a gross and upsetting situation!
In response to the shaming, Dubey took the photo sharing site to task with this epic message:
“Instagram THIS is the image that was reported by fat shamers and trolls, and YOU deleted it. HOW is this image being hateful, hurtful, abusive, trolling or obscene? Do 3 fat girls in swimsuits equate to gore, porn, racism, sexism? Or is it that people only want to see slim girls in swimsuits? IF this image is reported and deleted again, please trust that I WILL pursue this matter just like @rupikaur_ did when her image of lying in a period stain was removed. I am so disappointed and beyond livid right now. No Thanks to you and the people who had the gall to report this image, for making me feel so badly this Monday morning about my existence as a brown fat woman. My dear friends on social media, if you would like to help, please do so by reposting this image and sharing this post all over social media platforms, as many as you like.”
Dayum! Well said, girl!
As for IG, they claimed the situation was simply all one big misunderstanding and accident.
Despite all of her frustrations, Dubey expressed to Buzzfeed:
“There is a lot of shame and hiding behind the shadows as a plus sized person. Reclaiming that shame in order to have fun with fashion and finally wear outfits that I love, has been life changing. Being at ease with yourself and enjoying a jaunt to the pool should not be controversial. Life is far too short to be worrying about what people might say.”
PREACH! Hopefully this exposure will change IG’s questionable policies in the future.
