This is honestly horrifying.
Earlier this week, Tennessee state representative Andy Holt confirmed that he was giving away not one but TWO AR-15 assault rifles as a door prize at one of his fundraisers mere days after the worst mass shooting in American history. WHAT?
The state rep announced last week his plans to give away an assault rifle at his upcoming Hogfest BBQ fundraiser. However, the conservative politician seemed angry with the press when they dared question if he’d continue on with his plans amid the horrible Orlando tragedy. In a lengthy Facebook note, Andy wrote:
“I’m furious that I get phone calls from the media asking me if I’m still going to give away an AR-15 at our HogFest, rather than asking me how many extra firearms I’ll be handing out to ensure people can protect themselves. After all, it was a bullet that stopped the terrorist. Amazing how so many seem to miss that fact.”
Everything about this is in incredibly poor taste to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting. Unfortunately, the republican public figure didn’t seem to grasp that as he also took to Twitter to defend his door prize. He posted:
Holt went on to add that amid the news of his assault rifle giveaway he and his legislative assistant have received death threats. He shared:
Confirmed: Murder threats received @ Capitol came from registered democrat activist. TBI has file on him. Not first time he has made threats

Now we in no way wish physical harm against Andy or his team, but we can’t say we’re shocked that someone came at him with violent threats as he’s giving away deadly weapons.
Be sure to ch-ch-check out the politician’s deplorable note in its entirety for yourself (below)!
