****WARNING: Game Of Thrones SPOILERS AHEAD****

What did we do to deserve such an INCREDIBLE season finale?

As you surely know, Sunday night was the final episode for season six of GOT — and it not only set up some MAJOR plot lines for season seven, but also gave us some Red Wedding revenge, a confirmed fan theory, and some new royals to root for. Bless!

We know it’s a lot — but how else were the show’s creators going to top their Battle of the Bastards episode? LOLz!

Be sure to ch-ch-check out the highlights from Sunday’s episode to see if your favorite character survived all of the drama (below)!

Cersei Obliterates Her Enemies

no title

In the opening of the finale, we see preparation for the trials of Cersei Lannister and Loras Tyrell. While almost everyone is at the sept waiting for the momentous occasion to start, Cersei and her son King Tommen remain at the Red Keep all thanks to the Mountain. Despite the Lannister family’s absence, Loras’ “trial” begins as he confesses his sins to the High Sparrow and begs to join the religious leader’s cause. He is then brutally branded and welcomed into the order.

After the bloody scene, Queen Margaery realizes Cersei is not in the sept and figures out something is about to go down. And boy, did it go down. The High Sparrow orders his men to go fetch Cersei from the palace as Margaery begs him to let them all go. Not only does the Queen Mother have Qyburn oversee Pycelle’s brutal murder, but she also obliterates EVERYONE in the sept by causing green wildfire to go off beneath the ground. Yup, in one fell swoop Margaery, Loras, the High Sparrow, and everyone else were completely wiped from the Earth. Tommen, who sadly watched the explosion go down, is told his beloved wife has died and calmly throws himself out of a window. The prophecy is fulfilled, all of Cersei’s children have died.

The Starks Lannisters Send Their Regards

game of thrones finale recap

After reclaiming Riverrun from the Blackfish, Walder Frey arrogantly celebrates his victory with Jamie Lannister. However, this glee is short lived as Jamie slams Frey for being useless as his family keeps having to clean up the Frey family’s messes. Later, while dinning alone, Frey asks a serving girl where his sons are. The kitchen maid confirms to the elderly lord that his sons are present — despite the fact the duo are completely alone. The scullery maid then tells the lord he is eating a meat pie made out of human flesh and rips off her mask to reveal that she is Arya Stark. She swiftly assassinates Frey and smiles while doing it. We can’t really blame Arya for enjoying her revenge as this is the same man who killed her mother and brother at the Red Wedding.

After losing her whole family in the sept explosion, Olenna Tyrell meets with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes in Dorne to talk about getting revenge against the Lannisters. Varys emerges and essentially locks in the two matriarchs as allies in Khalessi’s claim to the Iron Throne. Meanwhile Dany breaks up with her boyfriend Daario and tells him he needs to stay in Meereen with the Second Sons. Obviously, Daario tries to convince the Queen with a thousand names not to dump him but she sends him off without so much as a goodbye kiss. Harsh.

Following a solid pep talk with Tyrion, she makes the imp her official hand of the queen, packs her bags, and heads off to Westeros on her new ships and with her dragons by her side. YAS KWEEN!

FINALLY! After Bran Stark is dropped off at the foot of the wall by his uncle Benjen, he takes a moment to connect to a weirwood tree where he is transported back to the death of his aunt Lyanna. Bran witnesses his father Ned discover a dying Lyanna who is laying in a pool of blood. As Lyanna begins to fade she whispers something into Ned’s ear and begs him to protect someone from her ex fianc├â┬⌐ Robert Baratheon. It is then a tiny baby is placed in Ned’s arms, who turns out to be the one and only Jon Snow. This probably means Jon is the bastard of Ned’s sister Lyanna and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen… and a possible heir to the Iron Throne.

In fact, Jon got his first taste at being a royal in this episode as the North rallies around the Stark family (thanks to our favorite 10-year-old badass Lyanna Mormont) and names him the new King of the North for his efforts in reclaiming Winterfell and defeating Ramsay Bolton. Tissues, anyone?

Unfortunately, Littlefinger is less than pleased since he just tried to get Jon’s sister Sansa Stark to take control so that they might rule Westeros in the future. We have a feeling Miz Stark’s allegiances are going to be pulled between these two men next season.

A Mad Queen

game of thrones finale recap

Upon Jamie’s arrival back in Kind’s Landing, he discovers the destroyed sept — oh, and that Cersei has taken the Iron Throne for herself. We guess it’s not so hard to make a claim for the throne when all of your enemies are dead. We can’t imagine Cersei giving up crown to anyone, even if her rival has three dragons. Brace yourself for the Clash of Queens in season seven!
