Beyoncé is using her star power to speak out on a VERY important issue.
On Thursday, the singer transformed her personal website into a candid and emotional message regarding the string of violent and senseless killings of black men by police in America. The powerful change comes as a stark contrast to the site’s usual look of breezy family vacation photos and glossy behind-the-scenes snaps.
No matter how you might feel about the performer, we think everyone can agree that her recent activism is admirable. We’re really loving this Formation era of Bey.
In the raw note, which appears in stark white text against a black backdrop, the singer denounces the appalling lack of “respect” and disgusting disregard for black lives. The 34-year-old also went on to encourage all people, especially members of the black community, to band together to end the violence.
One especially inspiring paragraph reads:
WE HAVE ALL THE POWER TO CHANNEL OUR ANGER AND FRUSTRATION INTO ACTION. WE MUST USE OUR VOICES TO CONTACT THE POLITICIANS AND LEGISLATORS IN OUR DISTRICTS AND DEMAND SOCIAL AND JUDICIAL CHANGES.”
What’s particuarly great about Beyonc├â┬⌐’s note is that it encourages people to evoke permanent change by contacting their representatives — the site’s sidebar even provides direct links to Congress.
You can read the full message, which was retweeted by Olivia Wilde in solidarity, (below):
Wow. We’re still reeling from these moving words!
Our hearts continue to go out to Alton Sterling and Philando Castile‘s families.
