A police officer has been shot in another alleged ambush on law enforcement.
On Friday, a cop was attacked during a traffic stop in St. Louis. While the officer was walking back to his squad car to finish paper work, the driver who had been pulled over got out of the car, “advanced quickly,” and fired multiple rounds.
The cop was reportedly hit in the neck, and was taken to Mercy Hospital where he is in critical but stable condition.
Ballwin Police Department Chief Kevin B. Scott said the suspect took off in his car, ultimately ending the pursuit on foot.
The shooter was eventually apprehended, and taken into custody without any incident. You can see the SLPD memo about the incident (below):
While investigators don’t know the gunman’s motives, it comes just a day after a sniper killed five police officers and injured others during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas.
However, fighting violence with violence is not the way to bring about the change our society desperately needs.
