We’re just glad no one on either side died.
Racial tensions are currently reaching an all-time high throughout the country as more and more Black Lives Matter supporters have begun protesting the senseless killings of black men at the hands of police.
Alton Sterling and Philando Castile are just two high profile examples of recent police brutality, and despite the deadly Dallas Sniper shooting that claimed five lives last week, Baton Rouge is still facing backlash from its residents.
In fact, the Baton Rogue Police Department arrested three men — including a 13-year-old boy — on Tuesday after four suspects robbed a pawn shop of eight handguns — allegedly to use them on police.
Police Chief Carl Dabdie addressed the arrests in a press conference claiming the suspects posed a “substantial, credible threat” to his men, saying:
“The reason the burglary was being done was to harm police officers… We have been questioned repeatedly over the last several days about our show of force and why we have the tactics that we have. Well, this is the reason, because we had credible threats against the lives of law enforcement in this city.”
It’s awful that people would seek to follow violence with violence. But we have to point out it almost sounds like Dabdie is implying this retaliation is in fact a justification for the scandal of blatantly killing a restrained man on camera…
BRPD are still on the lookout for one more suspect — as well as the two remaining guns thought to be in his possession. We’re really hoping this crime can be solved without deadly force.
Please stay safe out there, everyone.
