This breaks our hearts.
A 9-year-old boy died after being struck by lightning outside his Ohio home on Wednesday.
According to Todd Shroyer, director of the Coshocton County Emergency Medical Services, dispatchers were called at 12:35 p.m. and “worked everything we could” before taking the boy to a nearby hospital.
He told local press:
“The original dispatch came in as struck by lightning, not breathing. We don’t have any reason to doubt that, based on what we saw.”
The boy was reportedly outside with his little sister a couple of minutes away from their Jefferson Township house when a thunderstorm blew in.
After the boy was struck, the sister ran back to get her mother, who called 911. Shroyer added:
“We don’t know if [the strike] was direct or indirect. That’s what the little sister thought she saw.”
The young boy was later pronounced dead at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.
Our hearts go out to the boy’s family at this devastating time.
