Because everybody deserves a day off, right?!
Australian badminton player Sawan Serasinghe is finished with competition at the Rio Olympics, and now that he’s free to do as he pleases in the Olympic Village, he is going WAY over the top on finally pigging out after months of grueling training!
The six-pack-abbed athlete, who lost a badminton men’s doubles match on Saturday and was eliminated from the Games, posted to Facebook that he was going to enjoy his suddenly open schedule, starting with some McDonald’s.
He shared the picture (above), writing:
“Have to say I am disappointed about the match today. We definitely had a good chance to stretch the match to three sets towards the end of the second set but couldn’t close it out. We would have loved to end our first Olympic campaign with a win against a much higher ranked pair. Although having said that, there are lots of good things to learn from the matches in the last three days playing against more experienced pairs. Can’t wait to go back home to start training and keep on improving! Now it’s time to eat some junk food after months of eating clean!”
And he really meant that eating part — look at all that food!!!
As it stands, Olympians can hit up the McDonald’s in Rio’s village any time they like, and get anything — FOR FREE.
As you might expect, a lot of Olympians are avoiding it because, ya know, training and conditioning and all.
But as more athletes finish up their events like Serasinghe, the line has been getting CRAZY at times!!
With demand as high as it is, the Mickey D’s has limited athletes’ orders to 20 items (!) and those ordering more, like Serasinghe — who had 23 items in his order — get pushed back in priority.
It may not matter to some athletes, though. The Washington Post quoted an anonymous McDonald’s employee about one particular team that is still competing, but very content to get their fix:
“The Chinese basketball team, they come all day, every day. The Chinese eat Big Macs at 9 a.m. It’s crazy.”
Let’s just hope those 23 items were worth it for Serasinghe!!
