Yet another sport dominated by the Americans!
Today at the Olympics, the US men’s basketball team ran away with the gold medal, enjoying a 30-point win over Serbia and continuing to assert themselves as the best basketball nation in the world (especially after the US women won gold yesterday, too!).
The 96-66 win for the men today might have been a bit anticlimactic, but the most touching, poignant moment of the hoops tournament — and one of the better moments of the entire Olympics — turned out to be star forward Carmelo Anthony‘s reaction to the gold medal.
The hoops star, who plays for the New York Knicks in the NBA, got very emotional when speaking with reporters after the game!
See, Anthony was part of the US men’s 2004 Olympic team that disappointingly won a bronze medal, the only time the US did NOT win a gold since 1992.
Driven from that embarrassment, Anthony won gold as a member of the US men’s team in 2008, 2012, and now, 2016 — and as he announced on Saturday, this is it for him!
Ch-ch-check out a portion of his postgame interview (below) where he gets very emotional, as well as telling reporters he’s finished after this gold medal:
Others reacted just as positively to Melo’s important message about America uniting (below):
“…but we have to be united.” ├░┼╕ΓÇí┬║├░┼╕ΓÇí┬╕
Thank you, Melo…so, so strong.

It’s pretty dope to see Melo have so much fun in the Olympics. May never win a ring, but can’t really argue that he isnt/hasn’t been great.

Good for you, Carmelo!
And good for the men’s AND women’s national teams on bringing home the gold!
