Ciara & Russell Wilson Called Off Original Wedding Plans In North Carolina Because Of The State’s Anti-LGBT HB2 Law

Way to take a stand, Ciara and Russell Wilson!

As you know, the adorable love birds tied the knot last month in a magical ceremony at Peckforton Castle located just outside of Liverpool — but it turns out these weren’t the original plans for the big day!

Speaking to The Knot, celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss opened up about organizing the special occasion for CiCi and Russ not once, but three times.

Turns out, the 30-year-old songstress was initially supposed to say “I do” to her man in North Carolina — the state where he played baseball and football in college — but ultimately the duo decided to change venues because of the state’s controversial bathroom bill.

In case you didn’t know, HB2 notably forces transgender individuals to use the bathrooms associated with their biological sex, rather than the gender with which they identify.

The event guru dished on the difficulty landing the perfect location:

“I did the whole thing — three times. They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws. They were gonna go to Paris and it ended up being [Couture] Fashion Week and it was really difficult.”

But eventually, it all came together:

“We ended up in London. They wanted to be away. And we found a castle that was an hour out of Liverpool and they had about 110 guests.”

Only hiccup with Peckforton? The chapel was too small for the 1, 2 Step singer’s stunning 13-foot gown:

“Inside the castle, they had a chapel but it was too small because her dress was 13-feet. Her dress in person was so much more spectacular than in the pictures, though in the pictures, they’re beautiful. In person, it was shockingly beautiful.”

But clearly everything worked out and the pair had an unforgettable day.

Mindy reflected on her favorite part of the experience:

“I think my favorite part was the ceremony because they were so happy. They are delicious. They really are a very cool couple. I really enjoy their relationship.”

As do we!
