Shawn Mendes has some explaining to do!

On Thursday, an angry Shawn took to Twitter to clarify comments he made about his fan base in the September issue of Billboard Magazine.

In in the interview, Mendes complained about the intensity of his fans while also slamming Justin Bieber‘s supporters for giving him such a hard time. Understandably, the quotes were hurtful to the singer’s many admirers.

For those who missed the convo, S.M. went as far to deem sex “impossible” due to all the fans who see him as a “sex symbol”.

Elaborating on his tiring sex symbol persona, the 18-year-old went on to describe:

“You’re one person. You can’t let them take everything from you. Because they will — not in a malicious way. They just love you. You have to be careful.”

Hmm… while the comment is pretty tame in the grand scheme of things, we also could see how fans might be hurt by his words.

To add insult to injury, the Treat You Better star pissed off Beliebers with this gem:

“People thought of him as a type of person. But maybe he was the same person the whole time and you guys just didn’t give him a chance to show you who he was. Stop ├é┬¡looking at him in a ├é┬¡negative view and accept him as who he is. We don’t get mad at punk rock bands for doing shit like [he does], because that’s their personality. I just find it very confusing.”

Yikes! We guarantee Biebs’ supporters were NOT happy with that quote!

Unsurprisingly, fans criticized Shawn for his interview and harsh comments. In fact, the backlash got SO bad, he had to hop on Twitter to squash the scandal.

Wow! It sounds like the entertainer is pulling out the bad edit card for this one!

Considering Shawn just turned eighteen, it’s not too improbable to think he just had a bad case of word vomit. It happens to the best of us!

So, do YOU think the performer’s words were taken out of context?
