Just keep looking forward, Abs!
It’s been a little over five months since Abby Wambach went from U.S. Women’s Soccer superstar to criminal overnight thanks to her April DUI arrest.
However, based on what we’re hearing from her new book — Forward, a Memoir — it sounds like being publicly humiliated is actually exactly what the doctor ordered!
While the 36-year-old athlete’s tell-all doesn’t come out until tomorrow, we’re hearing the pages are full of surprisingly candid self-reflection — including chapters covering YEARS of drug and alcohol abuse.
Luckily, Abby claims that she hasn’t touched any of her vices — vodka, Vicodin, Ambien, and Adderall — since her arrest, saying:
“That night getting arrested was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Because if I don’t get so publicly shamed and publicly humiliated, I don’t think I wake up. I think I was asleep for a lot of years. Asleep to the pleas from my family and friends, and even myself, to get help. So that night I was humiliated enough to wake up.”
Talk about a silver lining!
Unfortunately, it seems as though Abby’s breakthrough came too little, too late — the memoir also confirms that she and wife Sarah Huffman are getting a divorce after three years of marriage.
That’s too bad… but we’re sure they know what’s best for them both right now.
Stay strong, Abby!
Will U be grabbing a copy of Forward when it hits shelves Tuesday, September 13??
