Zendaya isn’t one to stay silent on the important issues.

Last week, the 20-year-old went on Snapchat to explain she was denied service by a clerk at Vons supermarket, explaining that she felt racially profiled.

The grocery store’s manager ultimately helped the Disney darling purchase the gift cards she had sought out, and the chain later apologized for the incident.

But, while Vons maintained the situation had nothing to do with race, and rather the market’s gift card purchasing policy, the gorgeous gal still stressed how crucial it is to speak up regarding inequality.

The brunette beauty told People at the Michael Kors Access Smartwatch launch in NYC:

“It’s important to raise your voice about issues you feel affected by. It happens to African-American men and women every day.”

We’re glad Zendaya is using her celeb status to raise awareness about the ongoing problem of racial discrimination.
