As we’re sure you’re aware, Dancing With The Stars had quite the season premiere on Monday thanks to some incredible performances and that whole Ryan Lochte protest thing, but now the swimmer might be hurt?!
After the incident occurred Monday night, footage came out of the two protesters being tackled by security guards and the Olympian’s dancing parter, Cheryl Burke decided to take to Instagram to defend Lochte!
Despite learning the two men’s reasoning behind their actions, Burke is continuing to support her PIC as she wrote a blog post for People where she reflected on the scary event and defended Ryan AGAIN — oh and revealed that the controversial swimmer suffered from an injury!
The brunette beauty recalled the moment the protesters took the stage saying:
“We were standing there listening to [judge Carrie Ann Inaba] give us her thoughts when I suddenly saw someone walking onto the ballroom floor in a t-shirt with a red line through Ryan’s last name. My first thought was, ‘Is this a joke? Is this scripted and no one told us? Too soon, guys.’ But as soon as he started yelling ‘Boo! Lochte! Liar! Lochte!’ I realized it was a serious situation.”
The dancing pro continued saying:
“My mind started racing. My initial concern was if the guy was armed or not. DWTS is a family show and I knew there were kids in the audience and I just didn’t want anyone to get hurt.”
The 32-year-old then remembered the moment she shared with the gold medal swimmer during the incident:
“Then I saw Dave ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ one of our security guys who I’ve known for years ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ come in and tackle this guy. I looked up to Ryan and I could tell he was on the verge of tears. I could feel his heart sinking into his stomach ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ and to be honest, mine was too. They cut to commercial break and I just had him lock eyes with me and I was telling him, ‘You’re amazing. Don’t forget why you’re here.'”
Cheryl went on to give an update about the aftermath as she revealed that “everyone is definitely a little shaken up” and that security will probably be beefed up for next week’s show, but she still feels “100 percent safe in the ballroom.” There is some bad news though as the athlete’s partner shared:
“We have a quickstep this week and Ryan did injure his ankle a little when the protester got tackled, so we’ll have to see how our first rehearsal goes. But at the end of the day, we are all just so grateful that no one was more seriously injured.
This is a family-friendly show that should never be the source of any hate. It’s about celebrating dance and making people happy and I look forward to getting back to that next week.”
YIKES! We’re sure Ryan’s pushed though injuries before and think he’ll do just fine! We just hope everyone can put this scary event behind them!
What do you think about Burke’s encouraging words?
