FINALLY Lorne Michaels is speaking out in defense of Leslie Jones.

The Saturday Night Live boss has stayed silent about his star getting relentlessly trolled on Twitter with racist, offensive, and disgusting posts.

But now, the sketch series showrunner is opening up to The Hollywood Reporter about the upsetting cyberbullying the Ghostbusters actress faced, saying:

“I felt terrible that she had to go through it. That part was awful. But it’s also fame in the age of social media. The velocity of those attacks and how perspectives change is really difficult to deal with.”

While the famed producer sympathizes with the 49-year-old, he explained that skyrocketing to stardom like Miz Jones has is incredibly jarring because of the sudden, widespread criticism. He added:

“I think no one is prepared for the level of celebrity that comes with being on television and particularly as big a stage as this.”

We’re just glad Lorne finally lent his voice in defense of the fierce female, because no one deserves to be harassed — digitally or otherwise — the way she was.
