What a disgusting and vile crime.

On Monday, a man drove his pickup truck into a group of Native Americans protesting Columbus Day, as well as the North Dakota access pipeline.

The disturbing incident took place in Reno, Nevada which is home to about 30,000 Native Americans and multiple federally recognized reservations.

According to multiple accounts from the forty protesters, the violent perp and his passenger followed behind the protesters as they peacefully made their way through the city.

Once the group stopped to take a photo, the driver of the truck got into a heated exchange with one of the activists, then revved his engine in a threatening manner.

While a video of the incident shows protesters crowding the vehicle and seemingly blocking it from moving, one witness named Autumn Harry argued that the group was simply standing their ground. Apparently the driver had been taunting the protesters and threatening them with his car for MILES before the confrontation erupted.

Unfortunately, the driver decided to resolve the issuing by plowing through the group which sent one elderly woman to the hospital and injured others.

You can watch the footage (below) but please be warned that is a bit hard to watch. The truck pulls up at about 2:50.

How horrific.

As for the driver, he was able to get away despite one protester’s attempt to stop the car by grabbing onto one of the doors. The brave man ultimately had to let go of the door handle to avoid being seriously hurt.

Eyewitnesses described the driver as a “chubby” white man.

Following the awful event, one of the group’s members told USA Today:

“This is a hate crime. It’s still brutal to see this kind of racism in America. That man deserves life (in prison) for what he did.”

Well said.
