Yolanda Hadid is dedicated to finding a cure for Lyme disease, if not for herself, then for her children.
As you surely know, the Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills alum revealed back in 2015 that her kids, Bella Hadid and Anwar Hadid are also fighting the tick-borne illness. And on Thursday, the former model spoke at the Global Lyme Alliance Gala in NYC and vowed to her 20-year-old (who was the event’s honoree) that she would find a cure.
The blonde beauty fought back tears as she opened up about the up-and-comer’s fight with Lyme disease. She stated:
“Every mother here today understands the hopelessness that comes when nurturing your child that battles a disease without a cure. I am so grateful and proud of my daughter Bella for understanding the higher purpose of her journey and speaking openly about her journey in order to bring awareness for the hundreds of thousands of teenagers who suffer just like she does but whose voices cannot be heard.”
Powerful stuff. Hadid continued:
“I promise you I will find a cure. And I thank you so much can for standing up for what’s right and for joining us in a fight for a Lyme free world. And, my love, just remember you are not alone.”
However, Yolanda wasn’t the only member of her famous family to move the audience at the charity event as Bella too took the stage to reflect on her declining health and how it ruined her chances at a promising horseback-riding career. At one point, Gigi Hadid‘s sister shared:
“After years of this you begin to get used to living with the sickness, instead of getting cured and moving on with your life. Life isn’t always what it looks like on the outside, and the hardest part of this journey is to be judged by the way you look instead of the way you feel.”
Was that a shot at some of Yolanda’s former RHOBH peers? We think so.
Regardless, it appears as though Bella wouldn’t be where she is today without the incredible support system she has. The It Girl made sure to thank her momma in her speech as she noted:
“There’s nobody I could have learned my strength from more than her and our experiences together. Her compassion patience, practice, and determination to find a cure is beyond words and I am so lucky to have her.”
“He’s great with it, he’s definitely been learning a lot about it. When I say I’m sick, he understands and kind of leaves it alone.”
While our hearts go out to the Hadid family after what they’ve been through, we couldn’t be prouder of them for stepping up and raising awareness about this disease. Bravo.
